Medicines initiative finds permanent director

Pierre Meulien is to become the executive director of the Innovative Medicines Initiative, it has been announced.

Meulien has been the president and chief executive of Genome Canada, a non-for-profit organisation that promotes biomedical research, since 2010. Prior to that, he worked as the chief scientific officer for Genome British Columbia and the chief executive of Molecular Medicine Ireland.

The IMI—a health partnership between the EU and the European pharmaceutical industry—announced Meulien’s appointment at its annual Stakeholder Forum in Brussels on 15 June. The news follows a period of uncertainty for the leadership of the organisation, after the IMI failed to find a suitable permanent director when the contract of former director Michel Goldman ended in December 2014.
