European leaders have spoken out against US president Donald Trump’s decision to leave the Paris climate agreement, and said they would not renegotiate a deal.
On 1 June, Trump announced that the US was “getting out” of the global accord aimed at reducing green house gas emissions. In response, the EU reemphasised its commitment to the 2015 deal. The US president said he would be willing to strike a less ambitious deal with the world, which Brussels outwardly dismissed.
EU officials have said that instead of dealing with Washington, they will instead work with individual US states and multinational corporations to implement targets, reported The Guardian newspaper.
