The European Parliament has voted to support the Prima Mediterranean research and innovation programme and to call for an increased budget for Framework 9.
Final votes on the Parliament’s positions on Framework 9 and on the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area took place yesterday, and yielded no surprises.
MEPs voted by 607 votes to 39 with 3 abstentions in favour of Prima, a 10-year, roughly €500-million initiative focused on sustainable food and water management that involves 11 EU member states and eight non-EU countries. “Access to water, food and sanitation is of utmost economic, political and social importance in the Mediterranean region,” said Sofia Sakorafa, the rapporteur for the Parliament’s report.
