Dozens of Scottish academics, civil society figures, business people and former officials have signed an open letter calling for the UK to remain in the EU.
The letter, which was published in the newspaper The Herald on 18 July, calls on politicians and citizens to “think again”, and call a halt to Brexit. It says the UK’s reputation has already been “seriously damaged” by the process, and that instead of leaving the EU, the country should stay and help make Europe fairer.
“We see our society, economy and politics becoming ever more undermined due to the impact of Brexit. We recognise that a narrow majority voted to leave the EU, but the disastrous consequences are now becoming ever clearer—every day. Even before the UK has left the EU, we face falling living standards, rising inflation, slowing growth and lower productivity,” the letter says.
