EU looks to reinforce India links

The European Commission has announced plans to step up the EU’s relations with India, including through “enhanced cooperation” on research and innovation.

Talent and innovation will be priorities in the plans, which will involve reciprocal mobility of students and researchers, mutual recognition of qualifications, and networks of innovators and start-ups, the Commission said on 20 November.

European expertise in areas including sustainable infrastructure, environmental protection and digitisation will help India, an “emerging global power”, to grow in an environmentally sustainable way, the Commission said. “The EU and India can do more jointly to tackle global challenges, such as climate change, environment protection, sustainable development [and] ocean governance,” it said.
