EU-Japan trade and research deals move closer to sign-off

The European Parliament has approved EU agreements with Japan that include provisions for closer research cooperation.

The Parliament endorsed an Economic Partnership Agreement and a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Japan on 12 December. The latter agreement includes commitments for cooperation on R&D relating to climate change, agriculture, forest management and ICT.

Bernd Lange (above), the MEP who led on the strategic agreement, said that Parliament refused to turn the EU inwards in response to global challenges.
