Commission science advisers target ageing

The European Commission’s science advisers are going to provide the institution with advice on how the EU can cope with its ageing population.

The research commissioner Carlos Moedas has asked the Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism, which provides scientific evidence for policymaking and which he oversees, to start work on a project on ageing, the science academy Academia Europaea reported on 8 May.

A SAM scoping paper has identified various priorities for the project, including how people can be helped to age healthily and with minimal disability, and what health and social care innovations could be used to support people more effectively and efficiently.
