The Swedish Academy has decided not to award a Nobel prize for literature this year after a crisis over how it handled allegations of sexual misconduct.
In a statement on 4 May, the academy said that it intended to award two prizes in 2019 instead of announcing a winner this year, in view of “reduced public confidence” in its decision-making.
Four members of the academy’s committee left last month in protest at how the committee responded to and investigated alleged sexual assault on its premises. Permanent secretary Sara Danius resigned as well.
