Member-state governments are considering renewing the EU’s science and technology cooperation agreement with Russia, amid diplomatic tensions between the would-be signatories.
The European Commission wrote to the Council of the EU, which brings together national governments, on 18 January, recommending that it agree to extend an existing cooperation agreement with Russia, without amendment, for five years.
The agreement, which was first established between the European Community and the Government of the Russian Federation in November 2000, is set to expire on 20 February. It has previously been renewed three times.
