Europe needs coordinated EU and national-level strategies for achieving the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, according to a study for the European Parliament.
The EU has no SDG implementation strategy although more than three years have passed since the goals were adopted, according to a study published on 2 February. Nor has the European Commission incorporated consideration of the SDGs across all EU policies.
Similarly, while a majority of EU member states have national development plans for the SDGs, only about half have clear coordination between ministries, the report says. In addition, only four member states scored strongly for informing their SDG-related policymaking with evidence: Denmark, Finland, France and Latvia.
