Von der Leyen launches personal appeal for input on cancer plan

European Commission president invites scientists and the public to suggest plan priorities

On World Cancer Day, the European Commission has opened a public consultation on its forthcoming Beating Cancer Plan, which aims to improve Europe’s prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care of the disease.

Speaking at a launch event at the European Parliament on 4 February, the Commission’s president Ursula von der Leyen shared how she personally has been affected by cancer, and railed against inequalities in care across the EU.
