EU budget latest: ‘no progress’ on uplift for R&D and education

‘A lot remains to be done’ to reach a budget agreement, European Parliament warns

The European Parliament has said that no progress towards its goal of increasing allocations for R&D, higher education and other priority areas in the 2021-27 EU budget was made in its most recent round of negotiations with national governments in the Council of the EU.

“The German Council presidency did not table any viable or more detailed proposals that could have brought the negotiations further, following up on progress made last time,” Parliament negotiators said on 18 September after the fourth round of talks.
