Council set to endorse proposed ‘reciprocity’ approach to R&D ties

   

Emphasis on “level playing field” and scientific integrity for EU’s relationships, including with China

National governments in the Council of the EU look set to endorse the adoption of a reciprocal approach to R&D collaboration with non-EU nations, as proposed by the European Commission last month.

Draft Council conclusions published on 22 June say that, in keeping with the Commission proposal, the EU should “take the lead in maintaining openness in international research and innovation cooperation, while promoting a level playing field and reciprocity in cooperation with partner countries based on shared fundamental values and principles”.
