EU presidency wants ‘proactive’ national efforts on gender

Mandatory gender plans for research institutions will not be tick-box exercise, says R&D commissioner

The Slovenian presidency of the Council of the EU is urging countries to be “proactive” on gender equality in research, and is devising a declaration on the subject for EU member states and other countries to sign up to.

At a conference on 8-9 July, just days into Slovenia’s July-December turn at chairing the EU-related work of the bloc’s national governments, the country’s research minister Simona Kustec called on “all the EU member states and other countries to join us in being proactive with mainstreaming gender across research”.
