While 2021 set a route for European R&D, this year the engine must run hotter

After two years of upheaval during the coronavirus pandemic, the signs are pointing towards better times. All being well, 2022 should be the year that the research world starts making real progress on the road to recovery from Covid-19. 

That said, the pandemic is far from over, and universities and research institutes must feel like they’re in the slow lane to a better world. The lightning-speed spread of the Omicron variant means that many cities and towns that host higher education institutions are entering the new year with the brakes firmly on.
