The European Parliament has agreed to push for a €311 million increase to the 2023 budget for the EU’s research and innovation programme, Horizon Europe, setting it up against national governments in the Council of the EU, which want a €663m cut.

In a 19 October vote that came out 421 for and 137 against, MEPs adopted the recommendation of the Parliament budget committee to seek the increase to the European Commission proposal that Horizon Europe should have a 2023 budget of about €12.3 billion, up from about €12.2bn in 2022.
