Commission backs Netherlands’ €4.7bn Covid-19 recovery plan

Plan includes boosts for research on hydrogen and artificial intelligence

The European Commission has endorsed the Netherlands’ plan for spending its share of the bloc’s €800 billion Covid-19 recovery fund. The plan entails spending €4.7bn on reforms and investments, in areas including research and innovation.

“We have endorsed this plan because it is ambitious, far-sighted and will help build a better future for the Dutch people,” Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said on 8 September. She added that it “is also a strong contribution to our REPowerEU plan”, referring to an initiative for EU energy autonomy.
