EU politicians tell new UK leader of need for cooperation

Liz Truss reminded of shared challenges, as UK remains frozen out of EU research programme

EU politicians have called on the UK’s new prime minister to adopt a collaborative approach to UK-EU relations, which have deteriorated so much that there is no sign of the UK being able to join the bloc’s research and innovation programmes any time soon.

Lizz Truss, who had most recently served as UK foreign secretary, replaced Boris Johnson as prime minister today following a vote among members of the governing centre-right Conservative Party, after Johnson resigned in the summer having lost political support.
