University groups say Signe Ratso “best option” for interim role

The research community has welcomed the appointment of Signe Ratso as the interim head of the European Commission’s research and innovation department.

Ratso (pictured) served as a deputy head of the department from March 2018 before stepping up to become interim director-general on 1 September following the departure of Jean-Eric Paquet, who left the role after more than four years to become EU ambassador to Japan.
