ERC impacts

More than 40 per cent of projects funded by the European Research Council between 2007 and 2016 generated research that went on to be cited in patent applications, according to a study for the funder. Independent experts concluded that results from ERC projects have “considerable influence” on technology development. ERC president Maria Leptin said the study underscored that “policymakers need to understand the importance of frontier research for innovation”.
