Science activism ‘needs a wake-up call’

Researchers urged to drive change as EU official says policymakers’ needs must be better understood

Researchers should “wake up” to the need for scientific activism and pay more attention to the demands of policymakers in lobbying for change on global challenges, an event on the subject has heard.

Ramon Brugada is a medical professor at the University Hospital of Girona in Spain who founded an initiative to create a network of cardiac defibrillators for public use. He warned at the event—hosted by researcher association EuroScience—that society increasingly pays insufficient attention to scientific evidence.
