EU research missions must address ‘underlying issues’

University association criticises new approach to participation in R&D for being conceptually flawed

Cross-cutting missions in important research areas, such as climate and health, should be “unprogrammed” and readjusted to serve their purpose, according to a university association.

Five EU missions were introduced for the first time in 2021 under the current research funding programme, Horizon Europe, to enable bottom-up participation in important innovation.
