Horizon Europe
“Experimental actions to attract newcomers” have been added to the 2024 budget plan for Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme. The European Commission said the actions are intended to “reinforce the openness of the programme, support the goals of the EU missions and foster young researchers’ careers”. They are part of a broader set of changes the Commission said increased the 2024 budget by almost €1.4 billion to €7.3bn. The increase used “previously unallocated” funding from the €93.5bn overall budget, which remained unchanged. It devoted €648 million to the missions focused on cancer, climate change, soil health, oceans and cities, which “had been held back” pending the adoption of a plan for the missions’ future.
