The EU must “respect” research and innovation when it devises its next R&I funding programme, the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities has said. In a vision paper for Framework Programme 10, which is due to start in 2028, the Guild said: “R&I must not only be recognised as an investment area that alone can enable progress in all policy areas of the EU, it must also be recognised as an independent and forward-looking policy area with a ringfenced budget” of at least €200 billion. The Guild also called on the EU to “empower the creativity” of researchers and innovators, including by reinforcing the parts of the programme that give them freedom to explore their ideas.
