A Flemish commission for scientific integrity has been set up to tackle academic fraud and advise on appropriate action.
The group, which was launched on 7 October, is supported by the Flemish Fund for Scientific Research (FWO). It involves five Flemish universities—the University of Leuven, Ghent University, University of Antwerpen, Vrije University Brussels and Hasselt University—and the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts, the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium and the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology.
The commission will provide strategic advice on scientific integrity to university committees, its chairman Andre Van Steirteghem from the VUB said.
