Italy pushes for GM ban

Italy has asked the European Commission to suspend the authorisation of a genetically modified crop across Europe, on the basis of environmental risks.

According to an announcement by the environmental group Stop the Crop, the Italian minister of health, Renato Balduzzi, asked the Commission to ban the maize crop MON810 following a scientific report by the Italian Agricultural Research Council.
