A petition to stop animal vivisection has been presented to the European Parliament.

The European citizens initiative (ECI), which allows citizens to propose European policies, garnered nearly 1.2 million certified signatures over a period of 2 years and was submitted on 26 November to the European Commission.

The initiative calls on the Commission to present a proposal that “does away with animal experimentation and instead makes compulsory the use—in biomedical and toxicological research—of data directly relevant for the human species.”
