Committee responds to member states’ plan on ERA

Member states should focus on what they are already doing well, rather than launching lots of "new initiatives" to promote the European Research Area, an advisory committee has said.

The opinion from the European Research Area and Innovation Committee (ERAC) was adopted on 16 April. It takes stock of the draft ERA roadmap, which is being developed by member states and is scheduled for publication later this year.

According to ERAC, the member states’ roadmap has succeeded in "drawing attention to key areas where action is likely to pay dividends" for most countries across the EU. "There is scope to extract more value from European cooperation, whenever possible building on what Europe already does well rather than launching lots of new initiatives," states ERAC.
