The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has established a task force to steer its response to the Zika virus epidemic.
The task force is made up of experts with specialised knowledge in vaccines, infectious diseases and other relevant expertise. The group will give advice on scientific and regulatory issues related to research and development of medicines or vaccines against the virus.
The agency is encouraging medicines developers to contact the task force if they have any promising projects in the areas of infectious diseases that could aid the global effort to stop the epidemic. The agency will also reach out to companies already planning to work on vaccines and offer scientific and regulatory advice, it said in a statement on 8 February.
