Athens calls for southern alliance to boost EMA bid

Greece’s alternate foreign minister Giorgos Katrougalos has called on southern EU countries to band together in the contest to host the European Medicines Agency.

Greece has reached out to other southern states to emphasise the region’s collective interest in hosting the EMA, Katrougalos said at a press conference on 9 August. Greece is encouraging southern governments to support each other in the first round of voting for the agency’s next location.

Other countries have responded positively and talks are continuing, Katrougalos said. Athens is one of 19 European cities hoping to host the EMA, which will be forced to relocate from London after Brexit.
