Firms ‘lack incentives to declare chemicals use’

Policymakers, trade associations and the European Chemicals Agency should better explain why companies need to give regular updates on their use of chemicals, a report has urged.

Companies need more detailed guidance on the chemicals registration process, particularly the information that needs to be updated and by whom, a report commissioned by Echa and published on 4 September has suggested.

The report identified a perception among firms that their work is done once they have registered their use of chemicals under EU Reach—registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals—guidance. In fact, companies are expected to update their information when needed.
