Monsanto stripped of lobbying rights

European Parliament leaders have banned Monsanto from lobbying MEPs, after the company refused to attend a hearing on the regulatory debacle over the pesticide glyphosate.

Parliament president Antonio Tajani, along with the heads of the various political groups, agreed to impose the ban on the American agrochemical giant Monsanto at a meeting on 28 September, the Green parliamentary group announced.

The Greens requested the ban, which has been imposed for an indefinite period, after Monsanto’s president Philip Miller wrote a letter to Parliament leaders declining an invitation to appear at a hearing due to take place on 11 October.
