The European Food Safety Authority has published guidelines for environmental assessment, in an attempt to increase consistency among scientific fields.
Risk managers should make more use of the concept of ecosystem services—an approach that quantifies human benefits from the natural environment—as a universal way to set environmental protection goals, Efsa said on 20 April.
That conclusion was reached following a symposium on risk assessment and cooperation on environmental protection that took place in 2017. A report published this week summarised guidance intended to provide a single method for setting protection goals regardless of the product or organism being assessed.
