The top official at the European Commission’s health and food safety directorate-general is retiring from public service, with his replacement to start work in October.
Xavier Prats Monné will step down as director-general of the health division, known as DG Sante, “to work with non-profit organisations in the field of education”, the Commission said on 5 September. He has led DG Sante since 2015, having been with the Commission for more than 30 years.
He will be replaced by Anne Bucher, who is currently chairwoman of the Commission’s Regulatory Scrutiny Board, an independent advisory body. She has been working at the Commission for more than 35 years, focusing on areas including finance and social policy.
