Commissioner wants successors to update GM laws

The next European Commission should propose a new regulatory framework for genetically modified plants, the EU’s current health commissioner has said.

Vytenis Andriukaitis said that the next Commission, which will be appointed after the European Parliament elections in May, must update EU law to match progress in genetic modification techniques.

Andriukaitis told news website Euractiv on 27 March that the current Commission was discussing the implementation of a European Court of Justice ruling on the topic with national governments.
