The European Commission has taken a preliminary view that three German vehicle manufacturers—BMW, Daimler and VW—colluded to delay the rollout of emission-limiting technologies.
The Commission has been investigating the three companies since September 2018. It announced on 5 April that it in its preliminary view the companies breached EU antitrust rules to restrict competition on the development of emissions-reducing technologies between 2006 and 2014.
“European consumers may have been denied the opportunity to buy cars with the best available technology,” competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager said in a statement.
