Regulator reaches out over lack of nanotech applications

Chemicals agency also wants companies to provide more data

The European Chemicals Agency is taking steps to address an unexpected dearth of applications to register nanomaterials for commercial use.

Only 36 substances covering versions of chemicals involving nanomaterials had been submitted to the agency by the beginning of 2020, which is about 10 per cent of what was expected, ECHA announced on 24 February. It also said it had rejected more than half of the applications it had received due to incompleteness, and that companies needed to provide more data.
