EU changes rules on state aid for industrial research

Commission says move should boost countries’ research and innovation spending on digital tech

The European Commission has signed off an overhaul of EU laws designed to make it easier to funnel money to industry-led R&D.

Revisions to the state-aid rules governing how EU member states give public funding to companies for research will come into force immediately, the Commission announced in a statement on 19 October.
