Universities ‘concerned’ over EU’s new intellectual property rules

Measures “create serious obstacles” to innovation as they “underestimate” complexities of knowledge transfer, group says

Rules on the handling of intellectual property in the EU’s new funding instruments for innovation have caused fresh concern among research universities.

The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities said on 24 May that it was worried about provisions in the European Innovation Council’s Pathfinder and Transition funding schemes that give researchers indefinite royalty-free access rights around IP.
