EU mulling map of efforts to reduce use of animals in research

               

MEP “very much worried” about uninformed politicians, with funding and other decisions hanging in balance

The EU is considering producing a map showing existing efforts to reduce the use of animals in research, with one advocate saying the move should precede any attempt to create a ‘roadmap’ for driving reduction work or prioritising funding for it.

MEP Christian Ehler, chair of the European Parliament’s Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (Stoa) advice body, hosted a workshop on the use of animals in research, at which scientists were invited to discuss whether a reduction roadmap should be produced.
