EU Data Act provokes praise and criticism from research leaders

             

Member state governments sign off opening up of device data for uses including research

New EU legislation requiring device manufacturers to share data with users and public bodies has attracted both praise and concern from research leaders.

The Council of the EU member state governments signed off the Data Act on 27 November. The legislation is intended to “make the EU a leader in our data-driven society” by facilitating access to device data.
