Draft regulation directing €3.3 billion for semiconductor R&D set to become EU law
Representatives of EU member states have given the green light to a provisional deal on legislation to boost the bloc’s semiconductor industry, including by allocating €3.3 billion for research and innovation.
In April, MEPs and member states on the Council of the EU reached a deal on the legislation, which is designed to shore up the bloc’s competitiveness in semiconductors after shortages related to the Covid-19 pandemic underscored its dependence on Asian countries for chip manufacture and the US for chip design.
