International research collaboration is being hampered by the EU’s data protection laws, says Science Europe
Revolutionary EU data protection laws that came into effect in 2018 are hindering global research, according to the group of major research funders and performers Science Europe.
The General Data Protection Regulation is described by the EU as “the toughest privacy and security law in the world”, and it imposes obligations on all organisations anywhere in the world that use data related to people in the bloc.
