MEPs back ‘comprehensive reform’ of medicines innovation

Proposed changes to protection periods for new treatments garner criticism from industry

The European Parliament’s public health committee has adopted its stance on proposed changes to EU regulations intended to support innovation in medical treatments.

It supports a “comprehensive reform” that will “reward innovation”, the Parliament said, but the pharmaceutical industry has warned that the moves will have the opposite effect.
