Swedish funders have teamed up to tackle what they say is a lack of funding for mathematical research, according to a joint statement.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) have decided to spend half a billion kronor (€60m) towards mathematics research over the next five years.
They hope that this funding will improve the country’s performance in maths, in both schools and universities..
