Formas to host climate council

The Swedish government has mandated the Swedish Research Council Formas to set up a climate policy advisory body.

The establishment of the climate council is one of three missions that Formas has been mandated to do by the government. Formas will also run a ten-year national research programme on food, and set up an environmental analysis function, it announced on 1 June. The purpose of the climate policy council is to increase Formas’s ability to consolidate and improve knowledge on climate change issues, it said.

“I am proud and happy about the confidence that the government has shown Formas and our ability to work with complex issues,” said Ingrid Petterson, director-general of Formas. “The new assignments are important pieces of the puzzle in the work on the Sustainable Development Goals.”
