Suhf, the Association for Swedish Higher Education, has urged the government to create a more streamlined approach to teaching and researching foreign languages in Sweden.
Universities should cooperate more with each other to map out language education at institutions, Suhf said in a report published earlier this month. The aim would be to ensure that language teaching and research is of high quality.
More collaboration would also prevent the shutting down of smaller language programmes, the association said. Another area that should be included in the language strategy is an examination of multilingualism in Sweden, and of Swedish as a second language, Suhf said.
