Sweden looks for advice on national programme direction

Three research councils in Sweden are to conduct an analysis to help them decide how to take forward a set of newly launched national programmes.

This year, the government launched seven national research programmes on societal challenges that will each run for 10 years. The research councils Formas, Vetenskasprådet and Forte will do an analysis of best practice to highlight important factors to consider in implementing the programmes. They will study similar programmes in other countries as well as international programmes including the EU’s Joint Programming Initiatives, Formas said in a statement on 28 June.

Formas is responsible for three of the seven programmes—on climate change, food and sustainable building—while Forte and Vetenskapsrådet are responsible for the other four.
