The researcher union Sulf has approved of the government’s proposal to set up a national misconduct board to investigate all cases of alleged malpractice.
An independent national body for investigating misconduct would increase the legal certainty for researchers, Sulf said in its consultation response to the government proposal on 6 July. However, it said that researchers under investigation should be presumed innocent until the board has considered the matter.
The government made the proposal in February. It proposed the setting up of a research misconduct board to investigate all cases of alleged misconduct at public institutions, saying that the existing system for investigating research misconduct lacks uniformity at a national level.
