A foundation has granted 6 million Swedish kronor (€630,000) to the Swedish branch of Scholars at Risk for hosting international academics facing threats to their safety and work.
The money was made available by the foundation Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. Universities receiving the academics are expected to match the funding by 50 per cent, according to a statement published on 27 September.
“There is a growing need of protection for threatened researchers,” said Karolina Catoni, the coordinator for the campaign organisation Scholars at Risk in Sweden. “At the same time, more universities are interested in engaging with our work.”
